The Big Day
Well Pushies Galore 2013 is all wrapped up. I’ve heard some amazing stories associated with the day. One demonstrating outstanding commitment to Pushies: a lady riding to Pushies (commendable, given it was pretty miserable weather), having a mishap, breaking her arm, going to hospital and then making it for the afternoon. There surely has to be a prize category for that next year.
Then there was the people’s choice winner. Apparently Jeremy Moo has attended the Pushies events from 2011 and 2012, accruing parts for his prize-winning build. Truly a bike that came out of Pushies Galore.
I also happened upon a great story on Rob Cobcroft’s Velo Aficionado blog. Shaun Cruickshank came to Pushies in 2012. He had a talk to Keith of Kumo Cycles, and like most of us, fell for his framemaking aesthetic. A few months later, he put in an order for a custom Kumo randonneur. After a gestation period of around six months, Keith delivered the bike to the proud new owner at Pushies Galore this year.
The prize winners for the show ‘n’ shine were:
- BMX Vintage – Glynn Hicks
- BMX Old School – Ryan Hayes
- BMX Mid School– Dennis Caddy
- Cruiser/Rat/Dragster – Aiden Watson
- Ladies – Rachael Knowles
- Track – Adrian Knowles
- Road – Alan Telfer
- Knobbly Tyres– Brad Norman
- Cargo/Utility – Justin Bennett
- Antique – Sally Dillan
- Vintage – Daniel Angus
- Made in BNE – John Caskey
- BMX Build-Off – 1st Lix Bacskay, 2nd Michael Grunske, 3rd Michael Saunders
- People’s Choice – Jeremy Moo
These great photos were taken by Yan Chen.
We also had a very excited winner of the Pushies Galore prize bike. The first name out of the hat didn’t pick up their mobile – second time’s a charm.
So there you have it, another glut of bike love over. Pushies 2014 will most certainly be on, stay tuned for that. There will also likely be another Bowl-O-Cross event and some swap meets in the works too. Keep the love going on Facebook, Twitter, all good forums or just shout it out to your fellow cyclists on the road.
