The third annual instalment of Bowl-O-Cross brought a beautiful Brisbane Autumn day. Barely a cloud in the sky, a mild temperature and the gentlest of breezes.
Having learned from our mistakes, we chose to not hold this year’s event on Mother’s day. The number of mothers in attendance was duly increased.
The day featured several notable outfits: a flying parrot, Shaun the Sheep, a lucky leprechaun that was unlucky to crash, several Eurovision-inspired numbers and the odd excursion into cross-dress (no pun intended.)
The turn up for the kids’ events was extraordinary. Counts were around the 50 mark for the little ‘uns. A magic turnout from the next generation. Some of the days biggest cheers were reserved for the day’s smallest racers.
With a dry course, the dust was flying. Competitors navigated the races on a mixture of bikes, from mountain bikes, to single-speed CX, to some classic steel and a fair smattering of disc brakage.
Bowl-O-Cross is a day of encouraging participation, but there were races to be raced. Below is a list of results for all the finals (doesn’t include heats and relays.)
These magical days wouldn’t be possible with out the ever-present Brad Norman, Andrew Demack, Emma Best and the Queensland Cyclocross backbone. Thank you to team Butler, Colleen on the Fender Rhodes, everyone who raced and everyone who cheered.
A star performer on the day was the Bowl-O-Cross couch. See the couch portraits and many more pics here.
Race results (in order of finish) below.
